Think Before You Speak

Before you say anything to anyone think before you say it. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?

We are all guilty of gossip. We like to know what’s going on in other people’s lives and we like to talk about it. We especially like to discuss anything that appears to be scandalous or unexpected. We whisper amongst ourselves speculating and forming scenarios in our overactive imaginations. Whether our view of what’s going on is accurate doesn’t seem to really matter. We spread rumours and talk until something new catches our attention and the subject of our gossip is left devastated and broken.

We don’t think about the impact of our words. We hurt people perhaps without meaning to but we hurt them nonetheless. Wouldn’t we feel better about ourselves if we made other people feel better about themselves? Wouldn’t we be happier if we brought people joy instead of tears? Wouldn’t we feel pride in lifting people up instead of tearing them down?

Next time you have an opportunity to choose between gossiping or leaving the conversation, make the Pretty, Plus and Proud choice and think before you speak. Speak the truth. Speak if it’s necessary. Speak if it’s kind or don’t speak at all.

Food Is Fuel

Your car needs gas. Our appliances need electricity. Our homes need power. Our bodies need food. It’s as simple as that!

Food has no morals. It is not good or bad. It is just food. Our food choices do not make us good or bad. Our food choices do not make us less worthy. Food is meant to be enjoyed. Eating should be a pleasure.

So enjoy food! Put butter, spices and sauce on your food so it tastes yummy and exciting! Eat cake on your birthday. Eat popcorn at the movies. Eat watermelon on a warm day. Eat chocolate in any form on any day. Eat chili on a cold day or a hotdog at a summer barbecue. It’s all okay!

Your body needs to eat just like it needs to pee. Eat when you’re hungry. Stop if you’re full. Eat every day as often as you need to. Just like going to the bathroom, eating is spontaneous and doesn’t need a schedule nor should it be denied to your body.

Be Pretty, Plus and Proud and go eat something you love! Don’t deny your cravings. Don’t restrict yourself. Enjoy and live your best food life now!

*If you are restricting your food intake, bingeing or purging please seek immediate medical care and attention*

Sexual Orientation is NOT a Choice!

Lyrics by Lady Gaga. Image found on Pinterest, origin unknown.

Sexual orientation is not a choice. Why would anyone choose possible ostracism from friends and family who don’t agree with your “choice”. Why would you choose to be discriminated against, disrespected, be the target of hate and intolerance? Why would you choose difficult and different over easy and fitting in?

Simple explanation; who you love and are attracted to is not a choice! Those of you who don’t accept or understand, that’s ok. You don’t have to but you also don’t have to be rude, disrespectful, mean or judgemental. Keep negative, hateful and hurtful opinions to yourself please and just let people be. Live your life and let others live theirs.

Someone else’s sexual orientation or how they identify themselves is non of your business so move along and keep your narrow minded views and opinions in your head.

Isn’t love in any form better than hate? Support people who are struggling being who they were meant to be. Show them it’s okay to be your true self. Show them it’s ok to live free, loud and proud of who they are and who they love!

Our youth have enough problems without worrying about discrimination over something as wonderful as an expression of love.

Be Pretty, Plus and Proud whether you’re gay or straight, transgender or bisexual, lesbian or queer, non binary or asexual or anything else. Just be yourself and eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later, the rest of the world will catch on that it’s all okay!

Happy Pride 2021

No matter how you identify yourself, you are worthy of love, respect and dignity. You deserve the same opportunities for employment, relationships and adventures. You deserve to be who you are meant to be and live the life that makes you happy.

You have the right to wear what you like, love who gives you butterflies, live where you choose and do the job that fills your soul. You deserve to have a family if that is what you desire. You have the right to be addressed under the pronouns that you feel comfortable with.

You deserve to not be judged or ridiculed. You deserve to be embraced and accepted for your true self. It shouldn’t even be a topic of conversation. You are simply you.

Be Pretty, Plus and Proud of who you are whether it be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non binary or two spirited. Happy Pride and take this month to celebrate your colourful and wonderful self! If you’re not part of the LGBTQ+ community I hope you are doing your part to stand up for equal rights, acceptance, love and respect for those trying to be themselves in a world that doesn’t really appreciate being different.

No matter how you identify yourself you should love that person! That person is unique, strong, brave, resilient, persistent and beautiful!
