Before you say anything to anyone think before you say it. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?

We are all guilty of gossip. We like to know what’s going on in other people’s lives and we like to talk about it. We especially like to discuss anything that appears to be scandalous or unexpected. We whisper amongst ourselves speculating and forming scenarios in our overactive imaginations. Whether our view of what’s going on is accurate doesn’t seem to really matter. We spread rumours and talk until something new catches our attention and the subject of our gossip is left devastated and broken.

We don’t think about the impact of our words. We hurt people perhaps without meaning to but we hurt them nonetheless. Wouldn’t we feel better about ourselves if we made other people feel better about themselves? Wouldn’t we be happier if we brought people joy instead of tears? Wouldn’t we feel pride in lifting people up instead of tearing them down?
Next time you have an opportunity to choose between gossiping or leaving the conversation, make the Pretty, Plus and Proud choice and think before you speak. Speak the truth. Speak if it’s necessary. Speak if it’s kind or don’t speak at all.
