“We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
Martin Luther King
We are all in this world together, living our lives, working, taking care of our families and doing our best in whatever situation we find ourselves in. Especially during these stressful and uncertain times, we should be kind and help one another. We should be working together.
Often we stick to our “own kind” because it’s safe and comfortable. But now more than ever we need to break away from our cliches and embrace anyone who needs love and support. We need to step away from what is stagnating us and embrace, accept and learn from different perspectives.
Enjoy the feeling that comes from reaching across differences and getting to know someone unlike yourself; a different race, colour, sexual orientation, religion, culture or age. Ask someone who’s been ignored at work to join you for lunch. Ask an elderly neighbour to dinner, volunteer and befriend someone who is in need of a shoulder to lean on. Go to a Pride event and offer free hugs. I know certain religions aren’t so accepting of the LGBTQ+ community but I believe God would prefer we all show each other love and respect. Don’t judge what you don’t understand.
Be Pretty, Plus and Proud and remember the words by Martin Luther King. We’re all in this together! Be kind! Be helpful! Be generous! No matter what someone looks like or who they love, they’re human like everyone else and deserve love, respect and assistance just like you would want for yourself!
